The biggest value of the ALA conference for me is the social aspect. I like being around people I know, people who do the same thing I do, having that sense of community. The programming? Not so much. The ALA conference programs are not aligned with my personal interests. The two Annual conferences I’ve attended have been really disappointing.

I’d suggest looking at the conference program online. Are there any sessions that sound exciting to you? Is there anything that makes you think: OMG! I want to see/do/go to this! If so, then maybe the ALA conference might be worth trying out. Otherwise, in all honesty, I’d say skip it. Instead, look for regional conferences in your area and try those out before sinking the cash and time investment into ALA Annual.

Yes it was a beautiful sunset yesterday, I saw it from a hideous windswept Wal-Mart parking lot and it was even beautiful from there. Did you see the moon rise?
